The Office of the Children’s Advocate is an independent office of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. We are here to represent the rights, interests and viewpoints of children and youth throughout Manitoba who are receiving, or should be receiving, services under The Child and Family Services Act and The Adoption Act.
Being independent means that we are separate and apart from the child and family services system. We are not a chlld and family services agency.
We’re guided by best interests
We carry out our role according to the best interests provisions of both the Child and Family Services Act and the Adoption Act. This means that in all of the activities carried out by the staff of the Office of the Children’s Advocate, the best interests of the young person is our top consideration.
Special Investigations Reviews
We are also responsible for carrying out a review of services after the death of a young person who was, or had been, receiving services through the child welfare system within the year prior to their death.
